Recent Amazon Order

  • 1 of: Antagonists in the Church: How to Identify and Deal With Destructive Conflict
  • 1 of: Never Call Them Jerks
  • 1 of: Well-Intentioned Dragons: Ministering to Problem People in the Church
I have no patience for this.

I hate to be holier than thou, but I just want to slit my eyes at people, tell them to BE the change that they want to see in other people, and explain that life is a very fragile gift and to start treating it with more care.

And to get over themselves.

Another book you need for your chosen path: "From Generation to Generation" I can't remember the author's name at the moment, but he's a Rabbi. It's a more generally useful book in understanding congregational behavior (not to mention ministerial behavior!)
Hope that the issues that provoked such a book order settle down soon!

Do you think that folks have higher expectations of church people and relationships and aren't as tolerant of human frailty and poor communication? I wonder about that. We think of church as a "better place" and it really isn't; the lack of structure and poor communication exacerbate issues; there isn't always a way to resolve (vs. going up the chain of a department store- you may not get the answer you want, but there is a clear path forward). I think our expectations can sometimes be too high especially if we think people should be "better" at church.

Haven't commented for a while, but so glad everyone is healthy mostly and doing so well that you can get back to worrying about congregational dynamics.
