Imagine you're a UU student in an evangelical seminary.
Imagine someone in one of your classes says, "After reading your paper, I think I'm a Unitarian Universalist."
Now imagine ... it's the professor.
Yesterday, it happened.

Wowee, you ole missionary you!
Preach it, sister! Must have been one heckuva paper!
Oh my goodness. I can't imagine! I'm a student at a fairly liberal Christian seminary and I still can't imagine! What an amazing event.
As the minister at our UU says, "Evangelize." Not most UUs favorite word, but just relating the facts about UUism does quite a job on many folks. Thanks for sharing that story!
Wow, you should share that life-changing paper on your blog! Sounds like powerful stuff!
Nah, can't claim any credit for it. He's another of those "UU Without Knowing It" folks.
I responded by just smiling at him and saying, "Yes, I think you are, too."
Very Cool!
You really are very special and spectacular, you know.
@Kristina: right back at ya, sister.
Holy cats! Better than my experience of a classmate asking me to lunch, then confessing that he didn't think he was "really" a Christian anymore because process theology and some of the stuff I said in constructive theology made a lot of sense. After he explained more I assured him he was still "really" a Christian - just not the same kind of Christian he used to be...
I have to share this with my UU friend who took time off to recuperate after spending a semester at a Christian seminary and feeling like he was constantly having to fight for his beliefs -- he'll love your story!
I would love to get a copy of your paper!
