Normal, for good or for not

After spending a marvelous, wonderful week with all my friends at "UU Camp," I am spending this week with the munchkins and my parents.

My father has "discussed" with me:

1) my weight
2) my finances
3) my weight
4) the clutter in my house
5) disciplining my children
6) my weight

I think it is fair to say that things are getting back to normal.

Along with all the other, my parents and I have gotten in great discussions about politics, religion, life, etc. Unlike the above 6 items, we are in agreement about all these things.

Kids are doing well, or as best as can be expected. Little Warrior is blossoming with health and development, and her grandparents are convinced she's the laughingest, smartest baby in the world.

And today ...

She walked. 4 whole steps.

God, normal is delicious.

Yay! Walking! Can you send her over here to give some pointers to WCB? I'm convinced she will never walk. She will have to crawl to kindergarten.

My uncles like to do the weight thing on behalf of my father, who died in 1983. This past September, after I had officiated at the funeral of the eldest uncle, the second-eldest pulled me aside. I thought he was going to give me the praise I so richly deserved for planning and presiding over this incredibly formal affair at West Point. Instead, he started in on me about my weight. He suggested that I wasn't being the best leader to my people that I could be because I'm too fat. This from a man who's size 6 daughter goes to Weight Watchers.
I said, "Uncle Dick, NOTHING is keeping me from being the best leader I can be for my people. In fact, I couldn't BE a better leader for my people." He was clearly shocked that I had spoken back to him. We still haven't spoken.

I was disgusted and enraged the entire five hours home.

Ah, family.

You can add my hair and shoes to the list. There is always something. But then we know they care. My dad does not say anything, he just gets the look.

I dont know why parents have to be that way. My grandma made my mom miserable over the weight issue...but I think that I would freak out if my dad ever said anything to me about that. It just isnt cool and it can be very hurtful.

Im sorry LE. Dont let it get you down.

And WHOO-HOO for walking!! That makes me happy..
